Hypersound guidelines for commercial installations

Design Objectives

HyperSound is a particularly effective solution for environments where directivity is important. Other circumstances include the need for:

  • Sound zone(s) or sound isolation
  • Clear and intelligible audio
  • Immersive experience for the listener

When designing HyperSound into projects, keep in mind that the system's primary goal is to enhance application performance without sound leakage and without adding to distracting background noise.

Choosing the Right Media

One of the most important considerations is selecting media that can be heard clearly above any ambient noise.

For optimal playback, it is preferable to select audio files with the following attributes:

  • Close to the frequencies of human speech (300-7000 Hz)
  • Does not contain high-contrast content (many low-volume sections and high-volume sections in the same track)

If multiple sound zones are required, each broadcasting different media content, then each source requires its own audio source and amplifier.

Creating 3D Audio Applications

You can create 3D audio experiences by configuring stereo HyperSound speakers so that the directional sound targets each ear individually.

3D audio setup with HyperSound

  1. To ensure they are placed correctly, first place them side by side.
  2. Direct the left speaker toward the listener's left ear, and the right speaker toward the listener's right ear.
  3. Adjust the speakers so that they are at equal angles.
  4. Speakers must be set at the same angle relative to the listener to achieve an optimal level of highly targeted sound.
  5. The listener should hear the sound equally from each speaker.

NOTE: If the listener feels the audio is unbalanced, adjust the speakers by turning them inward or outward until the listener reports that the sound is centered.
