Preparing the SD card is the most critical step in your installation. On the NanoPlayer, there is no software interface to adjust the player's behavior: the physical organization of your folders and the naming of your files determine its operation.
This guide provides all the keys to configure your storage medium professionally and autonomously.
1. Choosing and Formatting the Storage Medium
The NanoPlayer accepts memory cards of type SD and SDHC, and recent models (Box+ versions) also support SDXC cards.
- Capacity: Choose a quality card with a minimum size of 64 MB.
- File System: The card must be formatted in FAT32 (or FAT16 for cards under 512 MB).
- Critical Safety Rule: The SD card must always be inserted or removed when the player IS NOT POWERED ON. To insert it, push it in without forcing; to remove it, press it lightly to unlock it.
2. Folder Organization (Directory Tree)
The player only supports one level of folders at the root (no subfolders) and accepts a maximum of 2 folders. Folder names must mandatory include 3 characters (Digit + Letter + Digit).
- Folder “0xy” (Autoplay): This folder is automatically played as soon as the player is powered on.
- Folder “1xy” (Trigger): This folder is played when a contact is detected on the trigger input (if folder 0 is configured in mode 0).
Meaning of the Characters (e.g., 0R0):
- First Digit: Folder number (0 or 1).
- Letter (Playback Mode): R for Random or S for Sequential.
- Last Digit (Trigger Mode): For folder 0, the digit 0 indicates that a contact will trigger folder 1, while the digit 1 indicates that a contact will play the next file in folder 0.
3. File Preparation and Naming
Each folder can contain up to 999 files. The player supports MP3 (up to 320 kbit/s, 44.1 kHz) and WAV (16-bit, 44.1 kHz, LPCM) formats.
File naming depends on the playback mode chosen for the folder:
- Random Mode (R or N): File names can be free (e.g.,
ambiance.mp3ormusic.wav). - Sequential Mode (S or T): Names must imperatively start with 3 digits to define the playback order (e.g.,
001.mp3,002.wav,003.mp3).
4. Technical Tips for Professionals
- Metadata: Avoid overly complex ID3v2.4 tags at the end of files, as they can sometimes generate parasitic noises at the end of playback.
- Broadcast WAV: Note that the Broadcast WAV format is not supported by the player.
- Updates: To modify your content, simply remove the card (player off) and plug it into a computer to make your file or folder name changes.
