A storage device used as Main Media or Alternate Media must use flash memory, such as a USB flash drive, an SD card or an SSD. Choose the storage capacity and device model according to the number of files to be played and the connector used on the player.
Use high-quality storage devices. SanDisk is the recommended brand.
Formatting the storage device
Format the storage device as FAT32 before using it as Main Media or Alternate Media. Other file systems are not supported. For high-capacity storage devices such as SSDs, only one partition is supported.
- Microsoft Windows: in File Explorer, right-click the storage device and select Format...
- Apple macOS: use Disk Utility.
- Linux: use the
fdiskcommand or a utility such as GParted.
Note: the guide states that FAT32 formatting is limited to 32 GB in recent versions of Microsoft Windows. To format higher-capacity storage devices, it recommends a third-party utility, such as Partition Manager from Paragon Software.
