This article explains how to update the player’s internal firmware, regardless of the previously installed version. Read the entire article before performing an update.
Firmware updates can add new features and improve existing functions. Keeping the firmware up to date is strongly recommended.
Select an update method
The method depends on two criteria:
- The firmware version currently installed on the player.
- Whether the current player settings must be retained or reset.
Depending on these criteria, you may need to update the bootloader before installing the new firmware and select the firmware file extension appropriate to the type of update.
| Current firmware version | Reset current player settings to factory settings | Keep current player settings |
|---|---|---|
| < 1610 |
| Not offered by this procedure. |
| ≥ 1610 and < 1695 |
|
|
| ≥ 1695 | Update the firmware and reset the settings. | Update the firmware and keep the settings. |
Identify the current firmware version
Before updating the firmware, identify the version installed on the player:
- From the front-panel user interface.
- From the web server.
Perform the firmware update
Before starting, select the appropriate method using the table above and read the relevant steps carefully.
Requirements
- A computer.
- A USB flash drive or SD card formatted as described in Preparing a Storage Device. The Main Media can be used for the firmware update unless it is connected to the internal SATA connector (
HDD-INT / Internal HDD) of a My Music Player, HW V1.0 only.
Warning: Not all USB flash drives are compatible with the firmware update process. For My Music Player, using an SD card instead of a USB flash drive is strongly recommended for this procedure.
- Download the firmware.
- Extract the firmware ZIP file to the chosen location. Two folders are created:
bootloaderandfirmware.
Update the bootloader
- From the
bootloaderfolder, copymy_music_player_fw.binto the root of the USB flash drive or SD card. - Eject and remove the USB flash drive or SD card using the operating system’s standard eject procedure.
- Turn off the player.
- Insert the USB flash drive or SD card into an appropriate player slot and turn on the player. The update should not take much longer than a normal startup.
- When the update is complete, the LCD displays the same information as during a normal startup, with or without Main Media. The player can then be turned off and the USB flash drive or SD card removed.
- Proceed with the main firmware update using the selected method.
