Just like standard audio files (MP3 or WAV), the player can play encrypted MP3 files. Only our range of compatible players can play these encrypted MP3 files. This helps to protect the content from being used on devices other than those supplied as part of a given installation. Furthermore, ownership information (licence name, supplier details) is embedded in the files to identify their legal owner in the event of theft or unauthorised use.
Encrypted MP3 files are created from standard MP3 files (same quality, same audio encoding process) and have the same file extension (.mp3).
File encryption is carried out using licensed software that is assigned to a single owner. The granting of a new licence is at the discretion of Waves System following a request.
